Ryan Short, PMHNP-BC

Mr. Short, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care team here at Mokscare. He practices with a grounded, compassionate, and collaborative style, guided by the belief that effective treatment begins with understanding the full context of a person’s life, strengths, and challenges.

His professional path is shaped by a wide range of real-world experience. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1995 to 2003. Following his military service, he worked in demanding and relationship-driven roles including oilfield truck driving across Wyoming, Colorado, and North Dakota, carpentry and general labor in residential construction and remodeling, and several years in event and nightlife sales and marketing positions. He also spent much of his early career in retail, hospitality, and service positions, giving him a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

He entered healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic, graduating nursing school in 2020 and working in the emergency department, where he developed a calm approach to crisis assessment and acute care. While completing his master’s training in psychiatric mental health, he worked as an admissions nurse at an inpatient psychiatric hospital for children, strengthening his passion for early intervention and resilience-focused care. His clinical interests include trauma-informed treatment, emotional regulation, and helping patients build sustainable, personalized strategies for long-term stability and growth.

Outside of practice, he is passionate about endurance challenges and time spent outdoors. He completed a 2,700-mile thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail, and later finished both the Colorado Trail and Arizona Trail. He was also an avid distance runner, completing two marathons, a 50K, and numerous half-marathons prior to a meniscus injury.

He deeply values partnership in care, believing that the best outcomes are achieved through shared decision-making and ongoing collaboration. He is honored to work alongside patients, families, and fellow providers in support of mental resilience, stability, and overall well-being.

I'm always looking for new patients.

Let's connect.
